The removal & replacement of any roof can be a dangerous operation especially so with the removal of an asbestos / cement roofing sheets, extra precautions are needed that must comply with HSE requirements, All personnel physically working with the removal of the asbestos roofing must be fully trained and have their yearly certificate, specialist PPE must be worn and suppression must be used to minimise any dust, the roof materials must be removed from the roof without breakage and lowered to ground in a way that will not cause any damage, they must then be placed into a sealed skip ready for removal to a certified tip
A RECENTLY FINISHED CONTRACT - FENWICKS WAREHOUSE NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, STRIP OUT AND REPLACE 7400M2 ASBESTOS CEMENT ROOFINGTHE ROOF WAS DOUBLE SKIN WITH PLASTER BOARDS AND MINERAL WOOL INSULATION, THE CLIENT INSISTED THE WAREHOUSE WAS FULLY OPERATIONAL THROUGHOUT THE WORK PROCESS, THEY TOOK THE EXTRAORDINARY STEPS TO PROTECT THE INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT BY PAYING FOR THE WHOLE ROOF AREA TO BE COMPLETELY SEALED BY WAY OF A 1000 GAUGE VISQUEEN FITTED TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE WHOLE ROOF AREA
THE CONTRACT PERIOD WAS 16 WEEKS AND FINISHED ON TIME
Before the removal started visqueen & nets were fitted to the underside of the roof
Careful removal of asbestos roof sheets is important as not to break the sheet
Stacking of the roof sheets before being lowered to ground
Telescopic lift is the prefered way to lower the sheets to ground
Asbestos /cement roofing sheets being loaded to the sealed skip
Asbestos roofing sheets neatly stacked inside of the skip with minimal breakage
