Profiled Metal Roofing

1800ft factory warehouse
Client: Northumberland County Council

This industrial roofing and cladding project in the North East featured a traditional built-up system with steel liner panels, Ridgibar spacer bars, thermal insulation, and a profiled metal top sheet. We manufactured the full cladding system in our Newcastle upon Tyne factory, ensuring full control over materials, delivery, and scheduling. Our expert roofing team completed the installation on time and to a high standard

Cold Rolled Steel Purlins – Lightweight, Strong & Reliable

The image to the right shows cold rolled steel purlins, which form the structural framework used to support roofing and cladding materials. These purlins are made from pre-galvanised, thin-gauge steel, offering an excellent strength-to-weight ratio while remaining easy to handle on site.

Purlins are typically delivered pre-cut and pre-punched, ready for immediate installation onto the hot rolled steel framework. If needed, they can also be cut or drilled on site, making them a versatile and efficient solution for modern industrial and commercial building projects.

Internal Liner Trays Installed on Cold Rolled Purlins

This image shows the internal liner trays securely fixed onto the cold rolled steel purlins. The side wall liners are 0.4mm thick, while the roof liners are 0.7mm thick. Both panels feature a white finish facing the building’s interior, which helps to brighten the space—even on the dullest days.

The side laps are sealed with tape to create an airtight seal, ensuring compliance with building regulations. The Ridgibar is fastened through the panels into the cold rolled purlins, forming a cavity between the liner trays and the external metal cladding.

Profiled Metal cladding

The photo shows profiled metal cladding fixed to the Ridgibar system, with insulation fitted between the two skins. Different U-values are achieved by varying Ridgibar spacer depth. Northumberland County Council chose Merlin Grey plastisol-coated sheets for all cladding, gutters, and flashings, ensuring durable and weather-resistant protection.

Finished Roofing & Cladding Project

Durable Goosewing Grey roof sheets with integrated roof lights & solar panels, provide energy-efficient roofing that lowers energy costs and offers strong weather resistance. Merlin Grey side and gable walls, paired with contrasting brick piers, add architectural interest and strength. Bold Aztec Yellow vehicle doors create a striking, modern focal point.

This system uses high-quality materials with thermal insulation to maintain stable temperatures and reduce energy use. Solar panels generate renewable energy on-site, supporting sustainability. Low maintenance and corrosion-resistant coatings ensure long-lasting performance, making it ideal for commercial and industrial buildings across the North East.
