This industrial roofing contract was a large flat felt roof with northern lights and numerous roof penetrations with approximately 36,000 m2 of roofing area. The original factory roofing was completed around the late 1940’s and has served to suite many trades, the factory is currently split into various factory units and used by several businesses ranging from stone cladding manufacturers & milk distributer’s to a government backed training centre.
The current factory owners virtually employed a full time team of felt roofing contractors to patch and make good roof leaks that were costing tens of thousands pounds per year and which never completely rectified the problem roof leaks . We were employed by the factory owners to design manufacture and fix our standard roofing system which consisted of a light gauge steel purlin system which was fixed through the existing felt roofing into the main roof support. We then insulated and over clad the whole factory roof with a plastic coated steel roofing sheet ( ICS 36/1000/R ) which were manufactured at our Newcastle upon tyne based factory. We integrated within the whole roof a new galvanized gutter which drained water into the existing drainage system. The roofing system is now maintenance free apart from cleaning the gutters maybe once per year. Please see images below.

The whole industrial roofing system including the roofing sheets, roof insulation and steel purlins were fitted whilst the factory area below the roof was being used by the occupants with virtually no disruption to there own business, one of the main reasons that this were at all possible was the fact that we were the manufacturers of the roofing materials and were able to site measure, manufacture and deliver back to the site the roofing sheets, purlins and specials needed that day to keep the roof safe and watertite
